Moyers passed away peacefully on January 28th, 2013. Frances was born on July 19, 1912 in New Market, MD. She was the daughter of the late Silas Kelly Utz and Ida Mae Etchison Utz and was part of a family of nine children. She attended public schools in Maryland and then Blue Ridge Junior College in New Windsor, MD. She received a BA degree from Bridgewater College and attended Columbia University in New York City. In 1935, Frances married James W. Moyers Sr. and enjoyed 62 years of happily married life with him until his death in 1998. She was a high school teacher in Rockingham County for fifteen years, and taught at schools in Keezletown, Montevideo, and Broadway. She was a member of the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren in Broadway, where she taught Sunday School, and was a Deacon for many years. She was active in the work of the Church and in community affairs. Frances enjoyed tending her flower and vegetable gardens, travelling with her husband, reading, and oil painting. She was predeceased by her son, James W. Moyers, Jr. in 1991. Frances is survived by a granddaughter, Deanna Moyers Chavez and her husband Arthur Chavez, and their daughter Lindsey MacMhaolain, a grandson, Jeffrey B. Moyers and his wife Ellen Van Niel Moyers, and their daughter Alyssa Kathryn Moyers, a daughter-in-law, Deborah May Proctor and her husband Steve Proctor, a sister, Miriam Utz Moore, and a sister-in-law Virginia Martin, as well as many special nieces and nephews and their families. Frances and her family would also like to acknowledge and thank all of her special friends at VMRC, who treated her with great kindness and made her feel very much at home there. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren, at 409 Brethren Road, Broadway, VA. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Roth. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community Compassion Fund at 1501 Virginia Ave, Harrisonburg, VA 22802.
