AUG. 22, 1927-MARCH 1, 2010
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dr. James H. Teeter, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 1, 2010.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1927, in Taneytown, Md., where he grew up on the family farm. He was the seventh of eight children. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army. In 1949, he married Mae McDaniel. He graduated from Gettysburg College, and went on to the University of Maryland, where he received his M.D.
In 1959, Jim set up surgical practice in Waynesboro, Pa. Before long, he was spending his vacations donating his time to medical missions. He grew the practice in Waynesboro, adding other doctors who also had an interest in medical missions. For 39 years, he served in hospitals through the world for several months each year, with Mae alongside as his registered nurse. He sponsored and trained many medical residents and interns, who accompanied him to the mission fields. Many of these men and women have gone into full-time medical missions.
Jim and Mae had four sons, but lost their youngest son, Mark, in 1963. In memory of him, they developed the Mark Teeter Memorial Park on their property, which gave Child Evangelism Fellowship a space to operate a Christian day camp throughout the summer. This camp has been in continuous operation since the mid 1960s and is now running for eight weeks each summer. Hundreds of young children have come to know the Lord as a result.
Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mae McDaniel Teeter. He leaves behind three sons, Timothy, Paul and Jonathan; and two daughters-in-law, Judi and Brenda. He has three grandchildren, Mark, Rachel and Rebecca.
Funeral services will be held at Calvary Bible Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, Pa., on Thursday, March 11, at noon. Interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, Uniontown, Md.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lochstampfor Funeral Home, corners of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to either of these Christian organizations: Child Evangelism Fellowship, P.O. Box 6, Waynesboro, PA 17268 or World Medical Missions/Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607, attention Paige Speir.
Jim will be remembered for his tireless, selfless dedication to medicine and the Lord's work. Because of his life's work, many lives were saved, both physically and spiritually.
