Miriam (Utz) Gloyd Moore, 98, of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
Known as "Mim" to her family and friends, she was born October 10, 1916 on the family farm near New Market, and was the daughter of the late Rev. Silas K. and Ida Mae (Etchison) Utz. She was the wife of John S. Gloyd and later married Lewis Moore.
Mim was a graduate of Frederick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1937, that led her on a long career in nursing until the age of 72.
Her many interests were gardening, quilting, being a scout leader and her church. As a member of Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, she served many years in disaster work, women's fellowship, deacon and on many other numerous committees.
She is survived by three daughters, Lou Gloyd of Mt. Airy, Sue Esworthy and husband Frank of Berkeley Springs, Cathy Moore and husband Jerry of Chambersburg; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mim was the last survivor of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Utz, Ruth Leer, Marjorie Teeter, Francis Moyers; and four brothers, Harvey, Norman, Henry, and Wilson Utz.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821 Green Valley Rd., Monrovia, MD 21770.
Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, or Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
