December 19, 1946 Rev. S.K. Utz dies suddenly The Rev. Silas K. Utz, 74, Littlestown R. 1, elder of the Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, died suddenly at 9 o'clock this morning while eating breakfast at his home. Elder of the church located between Littlestown and Taneytown, since 1920, the Rev. Mr. Utz had been in ill health for some time but had been able to attend services Sunday at the church. This morning he seemed to be in improved health and was eating breakfast when he suffered an attack and died instantly. A son of the late Samuel and Lucinda Kelly Utz he is survived by his wife who was Ida Etchison before their marriage; two sons, J. Norman Utz, Littlestown R. 1; Woodrow Wilson, Taneytown, four daughters, Mrs. Edgar Leer, York Springs; Mrs. John D. Teeter, Springs avenue; Mrs. James Moyers, Keezletown, Va, and Mrs. John Gloyd, Gaithersburg, MD. Eleven grandchildren; a brother, John Utz, Littlestown R. 1, and three sisters, Mrs. George McDaniel, Denton, MD; Mrs. Walter Burall, New Market, MD, and Mrs. Edward Dodd, Bowie, MD also survive. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Text: Gettysburg Times July 24, 1974 Mrs. Silas K. Utz dies Tuesday at 95, widow of the Rev. Silas K. Utz, formerly of Littlestown R. 1, died at the Brethren Home at Cross Keys yesterday afternoon. She was a member of the Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, near Taneytown. There are five children surviving: the Rev. J. Norman Utz, Littlestown R. 1: Mrs. John D. Teeter, Venice, FL Mrs. James Moyers, Broadway, VA; W. Wilson Utz, Taneytown, and Mrs. Miriam Gloyd, Rockville, MD; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Little Funeral Home in Littlestown, with her pastor, the Rev. John Harpold, and the Rev. Warren Esbach, chaplain at the Cross Keys home, officiating. Interment will be made in Bush Creek Cemetery at Monrovia, MD. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening.
