Mr. Jesse I. Burall Sr.
Mr. Jesse I. Burall Sr., age 83, of Monrovia, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband for 63 years of Catherine (McClain) Burall. Born Feb. 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Jesse M. and Flora (Delauter) Burall.
Mr. Burall was part of Frederick High School's graduating class of 1944. He and his wife, Catherine, began a lifelong career as dairy farmers in the Monrovia area. He was known by many as the "Meeting Man." He was a past president of the New Market Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Award. He won Granger of the Year while with the New Market Grange, where he served as master. He was a member of the State of Maryland and Frederick County Farm Bureau, where he served as president. He was a life member of the New Market District Fire Co. He received the award as a Master Farmer in 1995. His family was recognized as Farm Family of the Year in Frederick County in 2004. He was a life member of The Great Frederick Fair. He served on the soil conservation district. He was a director of the Maryland Co-Op, now part of the Dairy Farmers of America. Additionally, he was the director of SUDIA. He was a member of the Frederick County Vocational Technical Advisory Board. He served on committees of the Health System Agency of Western Maryland. He was a member of the Frederick Elks and Moose clubs. He was a lifelong member of Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in Monrovia. He was instrumental in starting football at Linganore High School, and served on the football boosters. He played and coached the New Market baseball team in the Maryland adult baseball league. He was also a 4-H and Boy Scout leader. Mr. Burall was involved in Frederick County Democratic politics. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed baseball and football.
Mr. Burall was the father of Jesse I. Burall Jr., of Monrovia, Wayne M. Burall and wife, Gail, of Monrovia, Eric F. Burall and wife, Faith, of New Windsor, Teresa M. Crum and husband, Gary, of Monrovia, and Ashley W. Burall and wife, Karen, of Walkersville. He was the grandfather of Brian Burall and wife, Connie, Sherri Barnes and husband, John, Wayne "Mitch" Burall and wife, Erin, Holly Kiser and husband, Glen, Erin Burall, Jarrod Burall, Josh Crum and wife, Elizabeth, Jessica Crum and Justin Burall. He was the great-grandfather of Breanna, Lorrie, Chelsea, Shane, Amanda, Devin, Tyler, Tristan and Kyleigh. He was the great-great-grandfather of Mykenna. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, William E. Burall, Addie Mae Null, Leroy Burall and Joice Bernhard; and is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special sister-in-law, Betty "Sweetness" Barnard; and many special friends, particularly Bobby Clark.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Keeney & Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will also receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., when services start on Monday, March 1, at Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821-A Green Valley Road, Monrovia. The Rev. Charles G. Beekley will officiate. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery (adjacent to Bush Creek Church of the Brethren).
