June 11, 1938 Utz-Spangler Miss Elizabeth Viola Spangler, Littlestown, R.D. and Charles Samuel Utz, Black's Corner, were married last Saturday evening at St. John's parsonage, West King Street, Littlestown, The single ring ceremony of the Lutheran church was performed by their pastor, the Rev. A. R. Longanecker. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Spangler, Littlestown, R.D. She has been employed at the Windsor Shoe factory. The bridegroom is employed by A. W. Feeser and company, Silver Run, Maryland.

Arlin Samuel Utz, 95, of Westminster, died Thursday morning, Jan. 9, 2014, at home. Born June 15, 1918, in New Market, he was the son of the late John and Helen Utz. He was the husband of Dorothy V. "Dottie" Utz, his wife of 62 years. He graduated from Taneytown High School. He was a veteran of the Navy, where he served from 1944 to 1946. He was a food machinist for Borden's Ice Cream, Food Machinery Corporation and Westinghouse. He enjoyed driving his 1960 Lark Studebaker convertible in parades and tours. He also enjoyed playing chess, dancing, doing word search puzzles, good music, ice skating, roller skating, woodworking and visiting Chick-Fil-A for lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Gettysburg Region Antique Automobile Club of America, Carroll County Historical Society and the West Carroll Republican Club. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons Kevin R. Utz, of Westminster, and A. Dwight and wife Deborah Utz, of Raleigh, N..C; sisters Sarah Rinehart Dowders, of Virgina Beach, Va., and Mary Tracey Bergman, of Pampuna, Fla.; grandchildren and spouses Brad and Stephanie Utz, Jennifer and Jeff Leppert, Julie and Joel Caple, Andrew and Emily Utz, and Nathan and BethAnn Utz; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Bernard Utz; and a sister, Frances Hahn. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Deacon Craig Giles officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
