HOEKSTRA -- Mr. John M. Hoekstra, aged 83 of Wyoming Park, passed away Saturday, December 27, 1975 at St. Mary's Hospital. Surviving are his wife Anna; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth DeVries of Grand Rapids and Mrs. John (Mary Lou) Glashower of Cedar Springs; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Maude VanHardesdelt [sic - VanHardesvelt] of Arizona. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 1 PM at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Leonard Bossenbroek of the Wyoming Park Christian Reformed Church officiating. Interment Grandville Cemetery. The family will be at the Grandville Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday and 7 to 9 Monday. (from Grand Rapids {Michigan] Press, Sunday, 28 December 1975, pg. 7-F) ------------------------------ Information from Miriam Robbins Midkiff: John Martin Hoekstra, was born 2 September 1892 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan to Martin Hoekstra and Jennie Ton. He was the third of their four children. His siblings were: Grace Hoekstra (Mrs. Adrian Klap) (1887 1975); Maude Mae Hoekstra (Mrs. Frederick B. VanHartesveldt) (1890 1991); and Peter Louis Ton Hoekstra (1895 1955). Johns wife Mary had been an invalid for many years and so Anna Stulp did the housekeeping. Before her death, Mary told John to marry Anna after she was gone. But after Marys death in 1967, John lived for a little over a year at Clark Methodist Home. On 5 October 1968, he married Anna in Jenison, Ottawa County, Michigan. They lived in Johns home at 2710 Forest Grove, S.W. in Wyoming Township, Kent County, Michigan. |
