Note |
Hand written notes of Gertrude Keyes Buttleman: "Gertrude Keyes graduated 8th grade from Green School at age 16 in 1897. She attended Central High School in Grand Rapids one year and began teaching at age 18 in the fall of 1899 in the Little Red School house near Rothbury, Michigan. She road (sic) her bicycle back and forth - four miles - night and morning - from her home near the Green School. When snow came her father took her most of the winter with horse and cutter."
